The International Federation of Obstetrics and Gynecology (FIGO) released the "Best Practice Recommendations for Mental Health in Perimenopausal Women" in 2026, stating that the risk of depressive symptoms in women at this stage increases by 40% compared to premenopause. Globally, 45% to 68% of women experience mood swings during this period, with those with a history of major depressive disorder having the highest risk of relapse (59%). Perimenopause is not only a physical turning point, but also a critical window for mental health intervention, but it is still severely ignored in low- and middle-income countries. FIGO strongly calls on countries to legislate to protect women's mental health rights during menopause.
