On October 7, 2026, Stanford University and Elsevier, a leading international academic publisher, jointly released the 2026 World's Top 2% Scientists list. It is one of the most highly regarded annual rankings for research evaluation and assessment of academic impact.

The World's Top 2% Scientists list consists of two categories: the Career-long Impact ranking and the Single-year Impact ranking. It identifies the world’s top 2% scientists across 20 major fields and 174 subfields, based on composite metrics including citation counts, h-index, hm-index adjusted for co-authorship, and citation numbers of single-authored or first-author papers. The Career-long Impact ranking reflects scholars’ overall academic performance throughout their careers, while the Single-year Impact ranking focuses on academic influence in the previous year.
